Sclerotherapy

Permanently Eliminates Unsightly Veins

Sclerotherapy is a safe and virtually painless. Although first developed in the 1800s, this simple, non-surgical medical procedure has been improved and perfected by practitioners in the United States and Europe since the 1920s.

Here’s how it works: A very fine needle is used to inject the abnormal vein with a sclerosing solution. This irritates the inner lining of the vein, causing it to collapse. Since the human body is remarkable in its ability to heal itself, blood from the abnormal vein is naturally rerouted to a healthy vein. Eventually, the unsightly varicose and spider veins disappear and overall blood flow is improved.

For more complex cases, Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy allows the physican to pinpoint damaged veins located deep in the body.

Sclerotherapy (both ultrasound guided and standard) offers numerous patient advantages. The treatment is done in office, and there is minimal discomfort.  In fact, no anesthesia is needed. With sclerotherapy, there is no recuperation period, and patients experience virtually no scarring. Patients can quickly return to normal activities.  Treated veins disappear within three weeks to six months.

As a cosmetic treatment option, Sclerotherapy is also surprisingly affordable. A treatment is only about $300 (if not covered by insurance), and many patients can be successfully treated in two or three visits.
