Vein Specialists offers a variety of procedures to eliminate varicose and spider veins for residents of Knoxville and East Tennessee. This gives us the ability to tailor treatment to specific patients’ needs.

One procedure we use frequently is Endovenous Ablation. This is a quick, minimally invasive laser procedure that leaves no scar and can be done on an outpatient basis in our offices. It can be used for larger varicose veins and can be used in place of vein stripping, a more invasive procedure.

Endovenous Ablation therapy uses a laser to destroy vein tissue. A thin catheter (or tube) is inserted into the vein through a tiny skin incision.  Then, using laser energy, the vein is heated and cauterized, which closes off the vein.

The physician may use ultrasound to help identify the locations of the veins. The catheter is then inserted, usually at the knee, but sometimes around ankle level. The laser is then activated, closing off the vein. As the body heals itself after the procedure, the unsightly vein disappears.

The treatment typically takes less than one hour, and the physician uses a local anesthesia. The patient can resume most daily activities soon after the procedure.

This approach is very effective. Postoperative studies show that Endovenous Ablation has a 98 percent success rate and excellent long-term results.
