Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does insurance cover vein treatments?
Insurance will cover a number of procedures. Typically, insurance will cover procedures that are therapeutic rather than cosmetic in nature. However, every patient is unique, as is every insurance claim. Vein Specialists of Tennessee will provide necessary diagnostic documentation to insurance companies to help secure treatment approval. You’ll know before the procedure if insurance covers it or if you need to consider other payment options.
2. How long do treatments take?
It depends on the procedure, but many take an hour or less. Once you receive your diagnosis, treatment options will be explained to you in detail, including the time involved and any pre-procedure or post-procedure steps that you need to take.
3. Is treatment painful?
Some of our procedures don’t require anesthetics, while others may require a local anesthetic to reduce discomfort. It depends on the patient and the condition of the veins. We work hard to minimize any discomfort a patient may feel during or after a procedure.
4. How long does it take to heal?
Most patients can resume daily activities shortly after the procedure. Depending on the procedure, healing may take a few days. Because some procedures rely on the body to re-route blood supplies from damaged veins to new ones, some old veins may take a few weeks to disappear after a procedure.
5. Will veins come back?
We take steps during diagnosis and treatment to minimize the need for future treatments, but in some cases, underlying conditions may cause other veins to become damaged. For some patients, vein health management can be a long-term process, and we work closely with them to provide the best possible care.
6. What are my payment options?
Vein Specialists of Tennessee will provide necessary diagnostic documentation to insurance companies to help secure treatment approval. In the case of treatment of veins for purely cosmetic reasons, insurance typically does not provide coverage. However, there are a number of payment options available, and we can explain those to you during your appointment.
7. Will treatments eliminate pain?
In many cases, treatments are done for the purpose of eliminating or reducing pain. Our procedures can also help patients feel better and have more energy. Dr. Tarr will explain potential outcomes of procedures beforehand.
